LUCKNOW — Prof Tariq Mansoor, vice chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University has resigned as he has been nominated to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council along with five others.

According to official AMU release pro vice chancellor Prof Mohd Gulrez will officiate as vice chancellor till a new appointment is made.

Prof Mansoor is among the six members nominated to the Legislative Council by UP Governor, Anandiben Patel, on Monday.

It’s worth noting that the Vice Chancellor wrote an article in the Indian Express soon after the storm over the BBC documentary on Gujarat 2002 pogrom, staunchly defending Prime Minister Narendra Modi provoking strong and adverse reactions from the community, including AMU students.
