NEW DELHI — The Congress leaders on Thursday staged a protest inside the Delhi airport after their senior party leader Pawan Khera was deboarded from a Raipur-bound plane.

The Congress called it a “dictatorial” attitude of the government, adding that earlier attempts were made to obstruct the plenary session with ED raids in Chhattisgarh.

The Congress media in-charge Pawan Khera, en-route to Raipur for the party plenary starting on Friday, was accompanied by Randeep Surjewala and Shakeel Ahmed besides many others.

Pawan Khera, in a statement after the incident said, “I was told there is a problem with your luggage, even though I only have one handbag. When I came down from the flight, I was told that you cannot go. Then it was said – (Deputy Commissioner of Police) DCP will meet you. I’ve been waiting for a long time. There is no trace of rules, laws and reasons.”

The Congress leaders raised slogans against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the tarmac in protest. “Modi jab jab darta hai, police ko aage karta hai (Whenever Modi is scared, he puts the police in front),” the Congress leaders shouted, reports The Indian Express.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader and General Secretary in-charge Communications Jairam Ramesh hit out at Union Home Minister Amit Shah saying, “First ED raided Raipur, now @Pawankhera has been offloaded from Raipur by Delhi Police. Another name for dictatorship is Amit Shahi. The Modi government wants to disrupt our national convention. We are not afraid, will continue to fight for the countrymen.”

The Congress leaders and workers also raised slogans against the Delhi Police terming it their “gimmick” to disrupt the party’s plenary.
