CPI Demands Withdrawal of Case Filed Against Annie Raja

The CPI termed the case totally baseless, aimed at stifling voices of dissent against the anti-people policies of the BJP government.

NEW DELHI — National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India (CPI) demanded withdrawal of a case filed against CPI National Executive member and general secretary of National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) Annie Raja.

Annie Raja is accused of violating Section 144 of IPC, sections of Epidemic Disease Act and Disaster Management Act for holding a public meeting at Jantar Mantar in December 2021 to mark two years’ of protests for equal citizenship.

In a statement issued on November 2, the secretariat of the CPI demanded withdrawal of the case terming it totally baseless, aimed at stifling voices of dissent against the anti-people policies of the BJP government.

The party also made an appeal to all secular democratic parties and movements to raise their voice in defence of expression of dissent for the anti-people policies of the government of the day and in defence of constitutional and democratic rights of the citizens.

Annie Raja attended the hearing at the Patiala House court on November 2 and was given bail. The court adjourned the hearing till January 7, 2023.
