NEW DELHI – Six people were seriously injured after communal clashes broke out when a Durga puja immersion procession was passing by a mosque amid blaring music in the Baldirai area of Sultanpur on Monday.

Meanwhile, video of a police official has surfaced on social media in which he heard saying, “Chun chun ke maaruga, mitti me miladunga and unke ghar bulldozer chalaunga.” He is apparently referring to those who have dared to disturb the procession. (Whoever has dared to disturb the Durga mata procession, I promise you that we will ground them (mitti me mila dunga) and will run bulldozer on their houses….unko chun chun ke marunga,” said the police official amidst chant of ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

According to PTI, Circle Officer of Baldirai Rajaram Chaudhary said that the tension broke out when the precisionists were asked to lower the volume of the music. Consequently, members of two communities freely indulged in stone pelting in the area.

The incident took place in the evening at the time of ‘azaan’ from a nearby mosque when the procession was passing through the Ibrahimpur area playing loud DJ music.

The situation was brought under control by a team of police led by Chaudhry. District Magistrate Ravish Gupta and Superintendent of Police Somen Verma also reached the spot after the incident.

“The rioters have been brought under control. The police will take unbiased strict action against them. It will be investigated as to who are involved in this,” said Verma, who was trying to bring normalcy in the area.

The situation is now under control. A police force has been deployed in the area.

Among those who suffered injuries is a police constable. They were all taken to a community health centre for treatment.
