NEW DELHI – A Hindu mob forcefully performed pooja at Mahmud Gawan Madarsa mosque in Bidar in the wee hours of Thursday.
A video shows a Hindu group, who were taking a Devi procession on the occasion of the Dasara festival, forcefully breaking the lock.
Sharing the video of the incident, AIMMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said “Visuals from historic Mahmud Gawan masjid & madrasa, Bidar, #Karnataka (5th October). Extremists broke the gate lock & attempted to desecrate. @bidar_police @BSBommai how can you allow this to happen? BJP is promoting such activity only to demean Muslims”.
High court advocate Syed Talha Hashmi said the incident occurred at around 1 am at night. “The Hindu mob was chanting slogans of Jai Shree Ram, Jai Hindu Dharam, Vande Mataram. They performed pooja on the mosque premises.”
Hashmi added that the Mahmud Gawan Madarsa mosque comes under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). “The video was made viral. In the afternoon, members from the Muslim community as well as the ASI went and filed a police complaint. An FIR has been registered,” Hashmi told Siasat.com.
According to Hashmi, one person has been taken into police custody.
