NEW DELHI — In a surprising move, India has received unusual praise, appreciating Gandhi’s teachings, from Saudi Arabia’s World Muslim League for its policy of non-violence and tolerance towards all on the eve of Gandhi Jayanto, October 2 which also coincides with the International Day Of Non-Violence..

The Makkah-based organisation praised India’s global and national outlook on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti — something the League had never done before.

On the occasion of the International Day of Non-violence, in a tweet, Muslim World League hailed Mahatma Gandhi for pioneering the philosophy of non-violence.

“Today, October 2, we celebrate Gandhi Jayanti to honour the birthday and remember the life of Mahatma Gandhi, a visionary, freedom fighter, and non-violence advocate. International Day of Non-Violence,” tweeted Muslim World League.

The League for the first time paid tribute to Gandhi on his 153rd birth anniversary and said, the day should be an opportunity to spread the message of non-violence internationally through education and awareness.

The Muslim World League is an international non-governmental Islamic organisation based Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

Rich tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi across the world on the occasion of his 153rd birth anniversary on Sunday. Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated every year on October 2.
