NEW DELHI – National Confederation of Human Rights Organisations (NCHRO) condemned Delhi Police for their submission in the Supreme Court that no hate speech took place at Dharam Sansad in December 2021.

The Delhi Police, in response to a petition alleging hate speech at Dharam Sansad in Delhi on 19 December, 2021, had denied, under oath, that hate speech had taken place at the event. The court responded by asking the police to submit a better affidavit.

The Delhi Police had further said that based on the investigations, all the complaints filed regarding the event are closed.

The Police also dismissed the allegations made by the petitioners against the police authorities about the collusion of the police and the perpetrators of communal hate speech.

The NCHRO contended that such submissions only expose the communalism within the Delhi Police as also its soft corner for the perpetrators of hate crimes. The police is as much responsible for the crime as the perpetrators for allowing them to get away with such acts.

The NCHRO called upon other progressive organisations and civil societies to come forward against the atmosphere of hate in the country which is being sanctioned by the state.
