NEW DELHI — The Uttar Pradesh police have detained and taken a 15-year-old boy into juvenile custody from Agra on allegations that he had “threatened” to “blow up” Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The FIR against the teenager was filed at Lucknow’s Sushant Golf City police station on charges of “criminal intimidation” after he had sent the threat by WhatsApp on the state’s Dial 112 helpline number, Indian Express reported.

The case was registered after an alert by policeman Anjul Kumar.

The number was tracked by the service team of the state police and afterwards the boy was apprehended from his home in Agra and brought before the juvenile board.

Indian Express said the boy’s parents were unaware about the complaint and they were shocked. Their son is usually quiet and spends most of his time playing, especially volleyball, and is aiming at getting a government job under the sports quota.

“A Class 10 student is being portrayed as an enemy of the state –perhaps he can be counselled, or just be told what is right and wrong,” his elder brother was quoted in the report.

“The FIR was filed by a policeman because it mentioned the Chief Minister, and had been sent to the official number. Prima facie, it appears that the minor did not mean to carry out the threat. Further investigation is pending,” Sachin Kumar Singh, station house officer (SHO) at Sushant Golf City, told Indian Express.
