Samyukt Kisan Morcha to hold meeting to discuss the next course of action

NEW DELHI – The protesting farmers at Delhi borders have decided to burn copies of Centre’s new farm laws while celebrating Lohri festival on Wednesday.
Lohri is a festival linked with harvest season in Punjab. It marks the beginning of spring season. Bonfires are a special feature of the festival.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court stayed the implementation of the three farm laws and formed a panel to discuss the issue. Farmers, however, have rejected both the orders. They say staying implementation is a temporary measure and not a solution. It can be withdrawn any time. They have also said that they won’t be participating in the negotiations by the committee.
They reiterated their demand that government must repeal the three farm laws.
“The farmers’ unions did not ask for this solution, given the fact that the implementation of the farm laws can be reinstated anytime. The government must repeal the laws and it must understand that the farmers and the people of India are opposed to the laws,” said Darshan Pal on behalf of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha, an umbrella organisation of around 40 farmers’ unions.
As a mark of protest against the legislations, farmers’ leader Manjeet Singh Rai said they will celebrate Lohri by burning the copies of farm laws at all protest sites in the evening.
Also, the Morcha plans to hold a meeting later in the day to discuss the next course of action.
