NEW DELHI — While meeting an Iranian delegation at his office here, BJP leader and Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Friday said “terrorism is the biggest enemy of Islam and humanity.” Without naming Pakistan, the minister said the entire world will have to work united to defeat such evil forces of terrorism and the government of India is following a “zero tolerance” policy against terrorism.
During the meeting, Naqvi focused more on terrorism than the cultural relations between India and Iran. He said that the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has adopted a “zero tolerance” policy against terrorism. Naqvi told the Iranian delegation that was led by Hojjat ul Islam Dr Mohsen Ghomi and Abouzar Ebrahimi Torkaman, head of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organisation that “we all have to work united to eliminate those forces who are misusing Islam as their security cover”.
Besides other fields, India and Iran can play an important role at a global level against terrorism, he said, adding that the bilateral relations between both the countries are very old and strong.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s last year’s visit to Iran has taken these bilateral relations to newer heights, he added.
Parroting the Sangh Parivar’s oft-repeated line, the minister did not forget to reiterate that “peace, unity, and harmony are in the DNA of India and this strength of India has always defeated evil forces”.
The Iranian delegation said the visit to India is meant to further the cultural relations between both the countries.
Earlier, the delegation had participated in a seminar on “Inter-Religious Dialogue on Spirituality in Hinduism and Islam” held on October 25-26 in New Delhi. Perhaps, it is for the first time that the Iranian Islamic scholars’ delegation met a minority affairs minister. The seminar was organized by Iran Cultural House and ICCR.
