LUCKNOW — Known for his controversial and communal statements and hate-mongering, the BJP leader and former MLA Sangeet Som has now come up with an objectionable remark on the Gyanvapi mosque controversy threatening openly to demolish the said mosque.
At a function to mark the Maharana Pratap Jayanti celebrations in Meerut, Sangeet Som allegedly said people should remember 1992 — the year when the Babri mosque was demolished, reports IANS.
“That was 1992 and this is 2022. The strength of the youth has doubled now and time has come to take another decision,” he said.
The hate-monger also reportedly said Ramlallah stayed in the tent for many years. After all, one day when the dam of people’s restraint broke, not a single brick of that controversial structure remained in place. That year was 1992, today is 2022. People like Aurangzeb demolished the temple and built the Gyanvapi Mosque. Now it is time to take back the temple.
Som, who was the main loser among known BJP leaders in last Assembly elections in UP, also wrote on his Facebook page that “Aurangzeb made the Gyanvapi mosque. In 1992, it was Babri and now in 2022 it is the turn of Gyanvapi. It is time to take back the temple which was demolished to make a mosque.”
Reacting to Som’s controversial and irresponsible statement, Congress spokesman Surendra Rajput said: “This is exactly the gameplan of the BJP, to create unrest and divisions in society. We hope that the BJP realises the damage it is doing to the social fabric with such statements. The Gyanvapi issue has been raised and so has the Taj Mahal issue. We are heading for dangerous times.”
Senior Congress leader Pramod Tiwari, speaking to ANI earlier said that the BJP is looking for another Ayodhya issue to play politics in the Gyanvapi Masjid case.
“The matter is in court but I will say that BJP’s condition is like a wingless bird after Ayodhya’s verdict as they can’t fight politics on jobs, inflation and ‘Achhe din’. They are looking for another Ayodhya issue so that they can politicise,” said the Congress leader.
