SRINAGAR — At a rally in Srinagar to support the Kathua rape accused, the brother of a BJP lawmaker and former minister, according to police complaint, used abusive language against Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. The rape and murder of 8-year-old girl in the state’s Kathua district that triggered nationwide outrage last month.
A First Information Report or FIR was filed after a video showing Rajinder Singh using abusive language against Ms Mufti during the rally organised by his brother Lal Singh on Sunday went viral.
Lal Singh and another BJP leader, Chander Prakash Ganga, resigned from the cabinet following their participation in a rally organised by the Hindu Ekta Manch in January, in support of the accused in the heinous case of rape and murder of an 8-year-old nomad child in Kathua. Since his forced resignation, Singh has been campaigning for a CBI probe in the rape and murder case, besides demanding the resignation of CM Mufti.
Reacting sharply to the video, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has demanded legal action against Choudhary Lal Singh’s brother for using “derogatory language” against the Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday thanked the people for their support against abusive language used against her by a brother of BJP leader and former Minister Choudhary Lal Singh.
Mehbooba Mufti also received birthday greetings from the well-wishers and friends on Tuesday, May22.
Responding to birthday greetings and expressing gratitude to those who condemned Lal Singh’s brother Rajinder Singh, Mufti said on her Twitter page: ” I want to thank everyone from across the spectrum for their support and solidarity today. The abusive statement and its diction reflect the horrid mentality behind the Kathua rape case.”
