AHMEDABAD — Congress looks all set to take on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in its strongholds in the approaching 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The party’s apex decision-making body – Congress Working Committee (CWC) will be holding a meeting on February 28 at Gandhinagar, Gujarat. A mammoth Jan sampark rally has been scheduled immediately after the meeting.
Addressing a press conference at GPCC (Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee), state party president Amit Chavda informed that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the newly appointed general secretary of Congress for eastern Uttar Pradesh, is all set to address her maiden public rally in PM Modi’s home turf, Gujarat. Along with Priyanka, Congress president Rahul Gandhi and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, former PM Manmohan Singh will also address the rally.
All CMs of Congress-ruled states and all senior leaders of state Congress will be present. The rally being organized at the Trimandir Ground, Adalaj in Gandhinagar, following the 51st Congress Working Committee (CWC) meet of the Congress party, will be a historical rally.
“CWC, the highest decision-making body of the Congress party during the meet will discuss poll strategy and the roadmap for the upcoming Lok Sabha election,” said Chavda and Paresh Dhanani, leader of the opposition.
“The preparations are in full swing for the rally which will be the biggest in Gujarat’s history,” they said. Both the leaders maintained that the growing resentment against Modi and the BJP in Gujarat along with the enthusiasm of the party cadre and common man would be beneficial.
“This will be the first time that the people of Gujarat will see Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi sharing the same podium. It is going to be the biggest rally in recent times,” they said enthusiastically.
The decision by the top Congress leadership to hold the CWC meeting in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state is being seen as a deft strategic move ahead of crucial elections, more so with party chief Rahul Gandhi trying to take on Narendra Modi directly on a series of issues, including the controversy surrounding Rafale deal.
Previous CWC meeting was held in Wardha district of BJP-ruled Maharashtra. The meeting also marked the beginning of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary celebrations. Senior party leaders maintained that Gujarat was an obvious choice given that it was also the home state of Gandhi.
