HYDERABAD – All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi, who is aiming to score a fourth successive win from Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency, on Friday sang paeans in praise of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao even as he tore into Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindutva agenda.
Addressing an election rally in Nalgonda, which has a sizable Muslim votebank, Owaisi said KCR towers over Modi. “KCR has a bigger heart than you (Modi). KCR is a bigger Hindu than you (Modi). There is zameen-aasman ka farq (massive difference) between KCR’s Hindu (religion) and Modi’s Hindutva (ideology),” the AIMIM chief was quoted by the Times of India as saying.
He was urging the voters to support Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) candidate Vemireddy Narasimha Reddy who is crossing swords with Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy.
The Hyderabad MP defined Hindutva as an ideology which destroys India’s secular fabric. “Hindutva means destroying secularism of India, its composite culture, discipline, Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb (culture) and universal brotherhood,” said the AIMIM leader. Owaisi also did not spare the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president and even took pot-shots at his beard. “Uttam Kumar Reddy should remember that his beard will grow longer than mine not just in the coming five years, but in the next 10 years as well,” he said. It may be recalled that Uttam had vowed to keep his beard until the Congress comes to power in Telangana. He had made this promise in 2016.
Asaduddin Owaisi advised Uttam to join AIMIM. “As your beard keeps growing, I invite you to join my party. Mein aap ko daawat deta hoon, siyasi bhi aur doosri bhi (I am inviting you to join party),” Owaisi said Continuing with his tirade against Narendra Modi for his recent comment that the steering of KCR’s car (TRS party symbol) was in the hands of AIMIM, the Hyderabad MP said: “The steering of KCR’s car is in the hands of suppressed and Dalits.”
