Sri Lankan court bans Coca Cola for three months

coca-colaCOLOMBO – A court in Sri Lanka has ordered suspension of production and sale of carbonated drink Coca Cola in the country for a period of three months as its manufacturer has been deemed to have flouted rules.

Magistrate of Kebetigollaw in Anuradhapura district of Sri Lanka, Gayan Meegahage, issued the order to Pure Beverages at Biyagama in Gampaha district, after the company was found distributing for sale a bottle of Coca Cola which did not mention the dates of production and expiry and the batch number, the Sunday Times online reported Tuesday.

The company has also been fined Rs.15,000.

The court barred the company from producing, storing, distributing and selling the beverage for three months.

The Biyagama plant is the only Coca Cola bottling plant in Sri Lanka. IANS
