BENGALURU — BS Yediyurappa on Friday took oath as Chief Minister of Karnataka for the fourth time after the BJP was invited to stake a claim.
Governor Vajubhai Vala administered the oath of office and secrecy to the 76-year old Yediyurappa at a ceremony at the Raj Bhavan. Yediyurappa alone was sworn-in.
The development comes three days after the JD(S)-Congress coalition government lost a trust vote on the floor of the state legislative Assembly.
Yediyurappa said that he will prove his majority in the state Assembly on Monday.
“At the cabinet meeting held soon after I took oath as Chief Minister, I decided to go for floor test in the Assembly on Monday at 10 a.m., to prove majority,” Yediyurappa said at a crowded press conference in the state secretariat, reports IANS.
Meanwhile, the Congress in a press conference questioned Karnataka Governor on how BJP has been given a chance to form the government without a majority. Party leader Siddaramaiah alleged, “BJP has the strength of 105 which is way less than the halfway mark. In no way, BJP can form the Karnataka govt if the Constitution is followed.”
