Accused retired naval officer issues apology as shocking viral video ignites nationwide outrage

NEW DELHI – The innocence of childhood was brutally shattered for a six-year-old girl in Bahdala village of Himachal Pradesh’s Una district. The girl was reportedly subjected to a barbaric punishment for the simple act of plucking a guava. Reports indicate that Rohit Jaswal, a retired naval officer, cruelly bound the terrified child to a staircase railing with a rope, then beat her, leaving her visibly traumatised and deeply shaken.

This horrific incident, which came to light on Monday, shook the public consciousness after a harrowing video surfaced on social media, instantly going viral. The footage captures the young girl, her small hands tightly bound, struggling desperately to speak, her eyes wide with fear and distress. The ordeal she endured is painfully evident in every frame.

The visceral visuals have understandably ignited a firestorm of outrage across the nation. Social media users have vehemently condemned the act as “inhumane,” demanding swift and stringent action against the accused.

Local communities, too, are reeling, expressing profound concern and disbelief that a minor could be subjected to such extreme cruelty over a trivial matter. A collective cry for accountability echoes, questioning how any adult could inflict such torment upon a child.

Authorities have taken immediate cognisance of the matter, launching a full-scale investigation. Legal action, promises to be appropriate and decisive, will follow the findings. Meanwhile, the viral clip continues its relentless circulation online, amplifying calls for justice and underscoring the urgent need for intervention.

The accused was later seen in a separate video, offering a public apology where he shockingly referred to the traumatised girl as “my daughter,” expressing regret over his indefensible actions.

One social media user encapsulated the widespread sentiment, writing, “She looks so traumatised, struggling to even speak. Kids are innocent and don’t deserve this kind of cruelty.”

This deeply disturbing event has once again thrust the critical issues of child safety and abuse into the harsh spotlight, serving as a stark, painful reminder of the imperative for stricter enforcement of laws designed to protect our most vulnerable.
