TWO LEADERS MEET ON SIDELINES OF PARIS CLIMATE SUMMIT IN CORDIAL ATMOSPHERE

Web Report

PARIS — The Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan met in what appeared to be a cordial and positive encounter on Monday as world leaders converged for the inauguration of the UN Conference of Parties (CoP) 21 Climate Summit in Paris on Monday.

Video footage and photographs showed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif shaking hands and exchanging pleasantries before they sat down on the same sofa for a brief discussion.

“PM @narendramodi meets PM Nawaz Sharif at COP 21 in Paris,” Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesman Vikas Swarup tweeted along with a picture of the two leaders shaking hands.

No details were released from either the Pakistani Foreign Office or Indian External Affairs ministry regarding what was discussed between the two leaders.

The short interaction comes at a tense time between the two countries as the Indian cricket board (BCCI) awaits its government’s approval for a Pakistan-India cricket series at a neutral venue in Sri Lanka.

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has already given his nod to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the series.
