Tehran tells UN that allowing their territory to be used in US-Israeli strikes violates international law and warrants reparations

ANKARA — Iran demanded compensation from Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates on Thursday, alleging that their territory was used to launch attacks by the US and Israel against Tehran, according to Iranian media.

Iran’s permanent representative to the UN, Amir-Saeid Iravani, sent a letter to the UN Secretariat and the president of the Security Council regarding what he described as the “use of Bahrain and UAE territory in attacks against Iran,” the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.

The letter said allowing the use of other countries’ territory to launch military attacks “violates international law,” the report said.

“Bahraini authorities had been previously informed of the matter” and that the issue is documented in UN records, the agency added.

Iravani said in the letter that US-Israeli strikes targeted civilians and residential areas in Iran, arguing that such actions “do not align with principles of good neighborly relations and mutual respect.”

He said Bahrain and the UAE bear international responsibility for “violations of international law” and “must compensate Iran for all material and moral damages incurred.”

There was no comment from Bahrain and the UAE on the Iranian demand.

Iran has previously claimed that the US launched missile strikes from bases in Bahrain and the UAE.

Regional escalation has continued to flare since the US and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran on Feb. 28, killing so far around 1,300 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation. — Anadolu Agency
