Administration urged to allow night-time markets and uninterrupted essential services during the Muslim holy month

LUCKNOW – Ahead of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, the Muslim community in Meerut has appealed to the district administration to allow markets to remain open at night and not to remove loudspeakers from mosques in Muslim areas.

Meerut city’s Naib Qazi, Zainul Rashiduddin, along with members of the Muslim community, met District Magistrate Dr V K Singh in this regard. During the meeting, they requested permission for shops to remain open throughout the night during Ramadan and demanded an uninterrupted supply of electricity and water to facilitate worshippers and those observing fasts.

Ramadan is tentatively set to start on 18 February.

The Naib Qazi urged the district administration to ensure all necessary arrangements in advance. He said that allowing night-time markets and maintaining essential services are crucial during Ramadan, keeping in mind prayers, fasting, and the convenience of the community.

Speaking to the media, Zainul Rashiduddin also raised the issue of loudspeakers installed at mosques. He stated that in Muslim localities, loudspeakers at mosques are sometimes removed by the police. The matter was raised before the District Magistrate with a request that loudspeakers should not be removed during Ramadan, so that prayers and religious activities are not disrupted.

However, the District Magistrate clarified that there was no special discussion regarding loudspeakers. He said that the existing system would continue as before and that action would be taken strictly in accordance with rules and regulations. He added that all arrangements would remain in line with law and order requirements and administrative guidelines.
