Saif Ali Khan, Pataudi Family Secure Major Victory in Bhopal Land Dispute

Date:

The issue dates back to 1998 when Aqeel Ahmed and others filed a petition claiming ownership of the land claiming that it was gifted in 1936 by Nawab Hamidullah Khan to their ancestors

BHOPAL — Prominent Bollywood actor and scion of the Pataudi family Saif Ali Khan, along with his mother Sharmila Tagore and sisters, achieved a decisive legal victory in a long-standing property dispute in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

On Friday, the court of the Fourteenth Additional Sessions Judge, Sanjay Agarwal, dismissed a petition concerning 16.62 acres of land located in the Nayapura area of Bhopal. The ruling upheld the ownership rights of Saif Ali Khan, his mother Sharmila Tagore, and his sisters, rejecting the claims of the opposing party in their entirety.

The dispute dates back to 1998, when Aqeel Ahmed and others filed a petition claiming ownership of the land. They claimed that the property had been gifted in 1936 by Nawab Hamidullah Khan, the former ruler of the Bhopal princely state, to their ancestors. Based on this claim, they sought legal recognition of their ownership.

However, the petitioners failed to present any concrete documentary proof supporting their claim in court.

The counsel for the Pataudi family, Syed Faizan Hussain, presented revenue records showing that the land had consistently been registered in the name of the Nawab family. The court found these records to be decisive.

The court observed in its judgement that the petition was not only unsupported by evidence but was also filed after an excessive and unexplained delay. On these grounds, the case was dismissed.

With the ruling, the Pataudi family’s ownership of the land—situated in a prime area of Bhopal—has been confirmed beyond dispute.

Saif Ali Khan, who is regarded as the Nawab of Bhopal, has longstanding personal and historical ties to the city and owns several properties there, some of which have been subject to legal proceedings in the past.
