PATNA — As many as 75 BJP leaders and officials have tested positive for COVID-19 or Coronavirus at the party’s state headquarters. In the wake of unprecedented rise in the cases of Coronavirus in the state in the past one week, the state government on Tuesday announced total lockdown for 15 days starting from July 16.
According to media reports, samples of 100 leaders and staffers at BJP’s state headquarters in Patna were collected on Monday. Out of 100, at least 75 people have reportedly tested positive. They include state BJP general secretary Devesh Kumar and MLC Radha Mohan Sharma. The state leaders had been holding poll preparation meetings at the state office for the past one week.
For past some days, the state has reported around 1,000 new cases of Coronavirus, taking the state tally to around 18,000 on Monday – around 5,000 of them are active cases.
After the central government announced ‘Unlock-1’ from June 1, leaders of the ruling BJP and JD-U had started preparation for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state. On June 7, BJP leader and Home Minister Amit Shah had addressed people of the state through video conferencing. The party had set up thousands of TV screens across the state to enable the people to hear Shah.
However, it appears that the huge relaxations of ‘Unlock-1’ have caused fast spread of the contagious disease in the state in the last one month. Earlier this week, around 15 districts underwent partial to full lockdown in their bid to contain the spread of the virus.
