A case is registered against three accused, including the Mahant of a Dharmasthala, SHO suspended
NEW DELHI – A 50-year-old woman was gang-raped and murdered allegedly by three men including a priest and his two disciples at a place of worship on Sunday night in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun district. Two men have been arrested and SHO has been suspended for negligence in the incident.
Talking to local media about the horrific incident, the victim’s son said that the priest and others dropped her at the door and left quickly. “She was dead when they left her. On Sunday, she had left home around 5 p.m. and the men brought her back around 11:30 pm”.
Superintendent of Police Siddharth Verma said, “The post mortem report confirmed rape. A case has been registered against the three accused, including the Mahant of Dharmasthala under sections of gang-rape and murder. Two accused have been arrested in the case. Some policemen have been negligent towards the case so the SHO has been suspended with immediate effect. Action will also be taken against other people who didn’t perform their duties. The search for the main accused is on.”
Autopsy reports revealed injuries. “The post mortem report shows minor injuries to private parts, there are tears and she has a fracture on one of her legs. There was excessive bleeding and the bleeding led to shock and that led to the patient’s death. Prima facie we found evidence of rape”. Dr Yashpal Singh, chief medical officer, Budaun, said.
In a video, the accused priest had claimed the woman fell into a well near the place of worship and that he and others rescued her. “I brought two men to rescue her. We took her out of the well. She was alive. When we dropped her home, she was alive,”.
The incident comes months after a Dalit woman from Hathras died days after she was allegedly gang-raped and assaulted by upper caste men in her village.
