NEW DELHI — A 14-year-old Dalit girl was found dead, her face disfigured and head battered in UP’s Bhadohi. The incident comes amid the widespread outrage over the Hathras incident in which a 19-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and murdered by upper-caste men.
Reports said the girl was attacked by an unknown person in a field where she had gone to defecate.
The family suspected that the victim was sexually assaulted before being bashed to death. However, the post-mortem report of the victim is awaited.
The police have started investigating the case with the help of forensic experts and crime branch officers who have reached the village to collect evidence.
Superintendent of Police Ram Badan Singh told journalists that the police would look at both murder and rape angles. “Whether or not a rape has occurred with the minor will be known only after the post-mortem report,” Singh said.
